World Star Search "Globe at Night" 2012
World Star Search "Globe at Night" 2012
The World Campaign "Globe at Night" is a Citizen Science activity very similar to the Campaign "World Count of Stars", since it aims to invite people from all over the world, children and adults, to make simple measurements of the sky that they possess in the place where they are, through very simple activities that only consist of observing by a few instants the stars that are on them and then record what they see.The objective is to contribute in the collection of information on light pollution seen from an international perspective.
In the Chilean Amateur Astronomical Community, our main objective is the dissemination of the characteristics of the Universe, and that ordinary people can turn their heads upwards and observe the beauty and infinity of objects in the sky, as well as, to be able to answer all those simple and complex questions that may arise in the mind of someone who is making an observation for the first time. For these reasons, the Campaign "Globe at Night", it is very convenient within the framework of outreach activities, as it not only invites people to observe but also makes them protagonists by allowing them to perform a real and simple activity, which all, without exception, can carry out from the patio of his own house.
In this opportunity, the campaign consists in observing a Constellation of those that are indicated in the activity guide (Orion - Leo - Crux) and compare what they see with one of the pictures presented in the same guide, in this way information is obtained real about the type of sky that exists in the place where said observation is made. There are 4 instances of observation during the year, being the one that follows from March 13 to 22, and the last stage will take place from April 11 to 20, 2012.
All the steps to follow are very well explained in the observation guides, as well as the tables of magnitudes of the sky and the links to send the report and finally compare your observations with those of thousands of people from all over the world through of an interactive map that has all the activities carried out worldwide.

There are already more than 14 thousand participants from all over the world.
We already participate ... now it is up to you to be a scientist for a day ...!
