Transcript for Hollywood tallies a blockbuster year at the box office

Finally tonight, it's been a blockbuster year at the box office. But this movie is getting talked about for a different reason. Reporter: Fueled by massive hits like "Black panther" and "Avengers," 2018 is on track to be top grossing movie year ever, over $11 billion in the U.S. Alone. "Enter Holmes and Watson," a new comedy just hit theaters and has been panned so thoroughly, it might just be the worst movie ever. The movie features comedy-duo will Ferrell and John Reilly in a Sherlock Holmes parody. For a while, it scored a zero percent on rotten tomatoes. The reviews -- well, take a look. An epic pile of cinematic disgrace. An insult to both Sherlock Holmes and Christmas. And it's not as bad as they say. It's worse. Could it be that bad? We went to theater today to ask people who just watched it. It was terrible. It was so bad. Reporter: It's not for lack of talent. Ferrell and Holmes have struck comedy gold before in "Step brothers." In "Talladega nights." But now they may claim a piece of movie history, a film to rival such famed bombs as John travolta's "Gotti," J lo and Ben Affleck in "Gigli." And remember "Glitter?" We didn't either. But as Ron burgundy surely would know -- I'm kind of a big deal. People know me. Reporter: Being mediocre is easy. The absolute worst? That's immortality. The only mystery in the spoof, who thought any of this was funny? It can't be that bad.
