Tiger tracker: Follow Tiger Woods' Saturday round at the Hero World Challenge
Tiger Woods played some great golf in Friday's second round of the Hero World Challenge in Nassau, Bahamas.
And then he stepped on the 18th tee box. Woods played Albany Golf Club 5-under through 17 holes before falling apart with a double-bogey on the final hole, his first non-par or birdie of the day.
The 14-time major champion and five-time winner of the Hero carded a 3-under on Friday, moving to 2-under for the tournament. He enters Saturday trailing leaders Jon Rahm and Henrik Stenson by eight strokes. Woods is currently T16 with yesterday's playing partner, Hideki Matsuyama, in the 18-player event that benefits his foundation.
Woods tees off at 11:49 a.m. ET alongside good friend Bryson DeChambeau. Follow his with round shot-by-shot analysis below.
Hole 12 - Par 3
Tiger finds the front of the green with his tee shot, which is good, except the pin is in the back of the green. He gives this one a whack and plays the pace just about perfect, coming to rest a few feet to the right. Oh, boy. He lips the edge with the par putt, and gives the birdie on No. 11 right back with a devastating three-putt bogey. 1-over thru 12 (1-under for the tournament).
Hole 11 - Par 5
Tiger hits the fairway off the tee, but decides to lay-up from there. He goes pin-seeking with the approach and sinks the birdie putt. I take back any and all criticism I had about the lay-up (Let's be real, though. It's a tournament that raises money for charity in the Bahamas, go for it). Even thru 11 (2-under for the tournament).
Hole 10 - Par 4
Another good drive for TW to begin the back, and his approach was even better. He tucked this one in close to the cup but missed the birdie putt. Man, he needed that. Par. 1-over thru 10 (1-under for the tournament).
Hole 9 - Par 5
Tiger hit a great drive to close out his front-nine, and his approach misses the green. He went for it in two to jump-start some momentum heading into the back-nine. His chip is about as good as can be, and Tiger cans the birdie putt. 1-over thru 9 (1-under for the tournament).
Hole 8 - Par 3
Not his best effort here, but hey, he's dancing. TW had a long putt for birdie that lagged to just a few inches. Another two-putt par. 2-over thru 8 (Even for the tournament).
Hole 7 - Par 4
His tee shot at No. 7 comes up a little short of the green (it's a driveable par 4) and his wedge from there is pretty solid, as well. No dice on the birdie putt. He'll settle for par. 2-over thru 7 (Even for the tournament).
Hole 6 - Par 5
Tiger finds the sand with his drive on No. 6, which means he'll be laying up on the par 5. His approach finds the green, setting up a much-needed eagle, or two-putt birdie. Eagle putt doesn't fall, but the birdie putt does! 2-over thru 6 (Even for the tournament).
Hole 5 - Par 3
Tiger's tee shot was going right at the flag but runs off. Not much to see here as he wedges to a few feet and putts for par. 3-over thru 5 (1-over for the tournament).
Hole 4 - Par 4
Another good drive here on No. 4 for TW. He's on the green in two, with a long birdie putt awaiting. He lags this one a few feet past the cup, but makes the par save. 3-over thru 4 (1-over for the tournament).
Hole 3 - Par 5
Tiger smokes his tee shot on No. 3. For how poorly he's played the par 3's this week, that's how well he's played the par 5's. His approach wasn't good, missing the green left. His chip from there failed to get up the hill, followed by another bad chip. From there he goes with putter. He'll two-putt from 10-ish feet for double-bogey. Yikes. 3-over thru 3 (1-over for the tournament).
Hole 2 - Par 3
Tiger has struggled on par 3's this weekend, and today is no different. His tee shot at No. 2 landed on the green but rolled off. His first chip went over the green, setting the scene for an up-and-down bogey. 1-over thru 2 (1-under for the tournament).
Hole 1 - Par 4
Here we go! Tiger drove the ball well yesterday, but finds himself in the bunker on Saturday, same as Friday. He made par from here yesterday, and has a chance at birdie today after a great approach flies over the flag and comes to rest around 15 feet from the pin. Nothing to see from there, two-putt par. Even thru 1 (2-under for the tournament).
