LEXINGTON, Ky. — A Kentucky football player arrested Sunday has been accused of assaulting his girlfriend.
University of Kentucky sophomore wide receiver Zy'Aire Hughes was arrested at an apartment on Woodland Ave. near UK's campus at 4:19 a.m. Sunday after officers were dispatched to the address. An arrest report obtained by the Courier Journal reports Hughes' "intentionally caused physical injury to his girlfriend," who had bruising and fresh scratches.
"We’re aware of the situation," UK coach Mark Stoops said in a statement provided by UK. "We’re in the process of gathering information. Proper behavior is an expectation of our program and we will address this as the facts are determined."
Hughes was charged with fourth-degree assault, a misdemeanor.
Hughes played in seven games during the regular season for the 9-3 Wildcats, recording two touches for 63 yards and a touchdown. His touchdown came on a 49-yard trick play against Murray State.
