A Massive Unexplored Cave Discovered In B.C. Park Is Of 'National Significance'

A recent discovery has revealed a large and unknown cave in Wells Gray Provincial Park of British Columbia, Canada.

The cave was first located by the Ministry of Forests, Lands, and Natural Resource Operations helicopter personnel.

The cave has since been studied closely by an expedition team. The team defines the cave as so massive that it is jaw dropping.

The cave is 100 meters by 60 meters. This is about the size of a Canadian Football League field. The cave is very deep, extending more than 100 meters under the ground, with the first 80 meters being a straight vertical descent.

Researchers have speculated that this could be the first time the cave has been seen by humans. This is because there is no record of researchers exploring the cave, as well as the local people being unable to see the cave because it was covered in snow year-round until recently.

The team is keeping the exact location of the cave a secret in order to protect the cave due to its fragile environment.

The expedition was funded by Hickson’s company, Tuya Terra Geo Corp. with support from BC Parks.

"It is huge. It is enormous. When you first see it, you just gasp because it’s just this huge hole in the ground. When I first saw the photos my initial reaction is this is very significant, this is a very important discovery.”

They claim that it is almost unbelievable when you first see the photos of the cave. The cave is a small sub-valley within a larger valley that was probably covered by glaciers for thousands of years. Water has been rushing under the glaciers in the sub-valley and was swirled around, slowly grinding the depression deeper into the rock for thousands of years.

The researchers are working with the province now and looking to obtain more funds in order to explore the cave in more detail. This more detailed study will take several weeks and dozens of individuals. The team hopes to do this in 2020. Additionally, the team has stated that it would be very helpful if any individual with knowledge regarding the cave would step forward and share their information.
