30 years of Science Today
The journal of science dissemination celebrated 30 years.In the previous post I made a brief balance of the dissemination of science and in particular, astronomy. As is logical, some things were left out, which is worth adding, among them, the magazine Ciencia Hoy.
The dissemination in science is not only a matter of arriving, but of staying, even improving. The magazine Ciencia Hoy, under the impulse of the people that form the civil association nonprofit, have managed in these decades to maintain and improve an indispensable magazine.
I have been subscribed to the magazine for some years, so I was invited to the celebration gala in C3, which I could not attend for personal reasons.
However, it is better late than never, I take this opportunity to congratulate all those who have made the magazine possible at this time, and I share with the public the press release of the event:30TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE SCIENCE MAGAZINE TODAY
We are pleased to share with you the celebration of our first thirty years with 162 bimonthly issues, in which some 1500 scientists (mostly Argentines) published some 1800 articles.
The look to the future, typical of every institutional anniversary, always includes ideas of renewal and projects that set new directions. Among these is, in the first place, the realization of an old desire: to draw a parallel magazine for children. When seeing the light this delivery of Science Today appears the tenth number of the magazine CHicos. Likewise, we have in advance an analysis of the feasibility of using the electronic medium to increase the dissemination of the message and the content of the magazine, including the design of a new website, which is underway.
We have also begun to value the enormous accumulated capital in the form of a valuable stock of published articles covering the full spectrum of science; to do so, we are compiling them in thematic volumes, from which the first three volumes have appeared: Marine Sciences, Agricultural Sciences and Anthropological Sciences and Pre-Columbian Societies.
A recent agreement of reciprocity of publication of articles with the French magazine La Recherche places us in an interesting place of international recognition. And we continue the exchange with our Brazilian older sister, Ciȇncia Hoje.
The production of Ciencia Hoy, directed by the editorial committee, is framed within the institutional framework provided by the non-profit civil association of the same name, governed by a board of directors controlled by two account reviewers and, ultimately, by the assembly of partners.
During its beginning, they presided over the Roberto Perazzo institution, from May 16 to December 31, 1989; Patricio Garrahan, from January 1, 1990 to December 3, 1993; Juana Pasquini, from January 1, 1994 to December 31, 1995; Patricio Garrahan, from January 1, 1996 to December 31, 2007; Carlos Abeledo, from January 1, 2008 to December 31, 2009, and Pablo E Penchaszadeh, from January 1, 2010 to the present.Science Association Today
