Watch SpaceX Launch to Satellite and Land to Rocket Today!

SpaceX plans to launch a communications satellite and launch a rocket today (November 15), and will be able to capture all the action live.

A two-stage SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket with the Es'hail-2 communications satellite is scheduled to take off from Pad 39A at NASA Kennedy Space Center in Florida at 3:46 p.m. EST (2046 GMT). You can see live here at Space.com, courtesy of SpaceX; Coverage begins 15 minutes before takeoff.

You can also watch live. directly through SpaceX. Today's launch window works for almost 2 hours, closing at 5:29 p.m. EST, (2229 GMT).

If everything goes according to plan, the Falcon 9 will deliver Es'hail-2 to a geostationary transfer orbit about 32 minutes after launch. By that time, the first stage of the rocket should be safe and solid in the spaceship "Of course I still love you" of SpaceX, which will be stationed in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Florida. The first stage is programmed to land on the floating platform about 8 minutes after takeoff.

A successful landing would be the second for this particular first stage, which also helped launches Telstar 19 Vantage satellite last July.

That reuse is key to SpaceX's effort to reduce the cost of spaceflight, an advance that could help humanity achieve ambitious exploration exploits, such as the Mars settlement, said company founder and CEO Elon Musk.

SpaceX has landed the first stages of Falcon 9 30 times to date and has returned to fly such reinforcements 16 times.

Es'hail-2 was built by Mitsubishi Electric Corp. and will be operated by Qatar's national satellite communications company. The satellite will provide secure communications for industry and government clients across the Middle East and North Africa, representatives of SpaceX said.

Today's launch will be the first of the three takeoffs on consecutive days, if current schedules are maintained. The Russian space agency Roscosmos plans to launch a robotic cargo ship Progress to the International Space Station (ISS) tomorrow afternoon (November 16), and the US company Northrop Grumman aims to launch an ISS refueling mission on its own early morning of Saturday (November 17).
