Background

On January 23, 1968 the USS. Village (AGER-2), an auxiliary general electronic research vessel, was attacked, boarded and captured by the North Koreans in international waters and taken to Wanson Port in North Korea.

"So the USS Village it became the first United States warship captured without a fight since June 22, 1807, when HMS Leopard forced the USS Chesapeake to surrender from the Virginia layers and impressed four of his crew in the British Navy. "(Brandt, 1969)

During the attack one Village The crew member died and seven others suffered shrapnel wounds, two of which were serious. The absence of crushing devices or effective destructive mechanisms made the task of completely destroying electronic equipment and classified material aboard the ship impossible.
