At least 11 people were injured on Wednesday night in a bar in southern California when a gunman dressed in black stormed, threw smoke grenades and fired dozens of assaults, witnesses and authorities said.



The suspect is believed to be dead inside the bar, police said.



According to the Ventura County Sheriff's Department, a sheriff's officer is among the injured.



Officials from the Ventura County Sheriff's Department and the California Highway Patrol said about 30 shots were fired. Hundreds were inside the bar at that time.



Police said they responded to the Borderline Bar and Grill in Thousand Oaks, California, about 40 miles west of Los Angeles, just before midnight, local time, after several shots were fired.

The gunman used a semiautomatic weapon in the attack, according to the star of Ventura County.



The number of potential victims is not clear, But a witness told the ABC station Los Angeles KABC-TV that he saw a security guard being shot, and that the alleged shooter appeared to use "a large gun" and smoke grenades.



"The armed man was throwing smoke grenades all over the place," said a different witness to KABC. "I saw him point to the back of the cash register ... and he kept shooting." I ran out the front door.



"There were probably three or four [shots]. I hit the ground. I look up, the security guard is dead. Well, I do not want to say he was dead, but he was shot. He was down. "
