The growing list of candidates to become the next attorney general covers a broad spectrum of legal minds close to the president Donald Trump and its administration and includes trusted advisers, political allies and vocal critics of the ongoing investigation of Special Adviser Robert Mueller on Russian interference in 2016 choice.
According to multiple sources familiar with Trump's thinking, the list currently consists of at least seven possible candidates: former US Attorney General William Barr, Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi, former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, Republican Congressman John Ratcliffe and US Attorney General Matthew Whitaker.

Giuliani, Trump's personal lawyer, is perhaps the most visible of the seven candidates. Rumor has it that Graham, who recently emerged as one of the president's fiercest defenders and will assume the position of chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, will audition for the post for months, perhaps in part inspiring his vigorous defense of the president's Supreme The candidate to the Brett Kavanaugh court in September.
