Three Girl Scouts who died in an alleged hit and run this weekend have been identified as cops who claim that the alleged 21-year-old driver admitted to having "snorted" just before the fatal accident.

Jayna Kelley, 9; Autum Helgeson, 10; Haylee Hickle, 10, and her mother, Sara Jo Schneider, 32, They were all killed when they were hit by a car. While picking up litter on a Wisconsin County highway shortly before noon on Saturday, Lake Hallie police said.

The driver left his lane, crossed the center line and finally drove into a ditch, police said.

Another 10-year-old girl was beaten and is in the hospital in stable condition, police said.

All the members of the group, seven children and five adults, "were in the ditch, not on the pavement or on the edge of gravel at the time of the accident" and "they wore green safety vests very visible," said the police.

"This is a horrible reminder of our nation's epidemic of self-indulging in substance abuse without considering the consequences," Lake Hallie Police Chief Cal D. Smokowicz said in a statement Monday. "The words can not describe the pain of our Lake Hallie community because of the witnesses, the victims and their families, this senseless clash was completely avoidable."

The Girl Scout community is also grieving.

"Our hearts are with our Girl Scout sisters in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin," Sylvia Acevedo, CEO of Girl Scouts, said in a statement. "No word can alleviate the pain of a tragedy of this magnitude, and Girl Scouts everywhere support it during this difficult time."
