Researchers from the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Seville (Spain) have recently published a study in which they confirm that diets supplemented with aqueous extract of Annona muricata L. leaves can prevent the symptoms associated with fibromyalgia improving the life of these patients .

 

The leaves of the species Annona muricata L. come from a tree between 4 and 6 meters high of the botanical family Annonaceae. They are simple leaves, bright dark green, oblong-ovate or oblong-elliptic and 5 to 15 cm in length. This species is native to tropical areas of America and abundant in the Amazon region. It is also usually cultivated for medicinal use. The leaf has different ethnomedical uses according to the country of origin. The most outstanding traditional medicine jobs, validated scientifically in preclinical trials are: inflammation, pain, infections, diabetes and cancer.

 

"The consumption of the extract of the leaves of Annona muricata L. with the pharmaceutical form and adequate dosage, can improve the chronic pain, anxiety and depression that accompany the disease.This extract comes from the traditional preparation in the form of decoction" , reports the expert Ana María Quílez from the Medicinal Plants research group at the University of Seville.

This study was carried out during a period of one month with 60 female mice of five weeks of age in the laboratories of the Faculty of Pharmacy. The animals were divided into six groups that were fed a standard diet supplemented with different amounts of this plant.

 

After the results obtained by these researchers, the next step will be to carry out a clinical trial with patients, to corroborate their activity and ensure an effective and safe dose in humans. (Source: U. Sevilla)
