The day after the election, the Pentagon loses its name for the border support mission
The day after an interim election in which President Donald Trump played the Pentagon's mission of providing logistical support along the southern border, the Pentagon said on Wednesday it will no longer publicly refer to the mission as Operation Patriot. Instead, the deployment of troops in active service will be called what it has always been: a support mission at the border.

"We do not call it Operation Patriot Faithful, we call it a border support mission," said Lieutenant Colonel Jamie Davis, a Pentagon spokesman.

A US official said the change occurred on Tuesday at the request of Defense Secretary James Mattis. It was not clear if the timing of the request was linked to Election Day or if it was simply a coincidence.
Two other officers said that the military can still use Operation Patriotic Féria internally, but not in public communication. One of the officials said that this was being done to emphasize that the army was not the leader of the mission, but was providing support to the CBP along the border.
In the period before noon on Tuesday choice, President trump he often highlighted the deployment of active duty troops in the border support mission, although he did not refer to him as Operation Fidel Patriota.
But often it seemed enhancement It is more than a border support mission to CBP, particularly after the troops in active service placed the concertina at some ports of entry in Texas this weekend.
"The barbed wire also seems to be very effective, with soldiers standing in front of him," Trump said at a campaign rally in Cleveland.
Senior military officials have repeatedly stated that troops in active service are only at the border in a support role for CBP.
"You will see some soldiers there, right now, placing concertina wire and reinforcing the ports of entry," General Joseph Dunford, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said on Monday.
"We are providing support for both trucks and helicopters, and also medical support," said Dunford.
"There is no plan for the military forces of the United States to participate in the real mission of denying the entry of people to the United States," he said. "There is no plan for soldiers to come in contact with immigrants or reinforce the Department of Homeland Security while carrying out their mission, we are providing empowerment."
The North Command of the United States has been using #FaithfulPatriot #OFP and #OperationFaithfulPatriot on their Twitter account, but they were not used on Wednesday.
