The ancient Mongol teeth can solve a problem of lactose intolerance
It is hard to believe that lactose intolerance has entered the political arena, but it has. It is also hard to believe that someone can milk a cow, a goat, a yak or any other animal that gives milk for any reason other than drinking milk or doing something with it. In other words, nobody uses the cube just to verify it from their list of groups. So, it seems strange that the Mongolian shepherds milked all the animals that were milked and consumed all that dairy despite the fact that a new investigation discovered that they were lactose intolerant. Modern Mongols digest dairy products using the natural microbes that are produced when whole milk is converted into other dairy products, a reason why many lactose intolerant people can eat yogurt or cheese. The Mongols take this process to the extreme, causing these and other products to be rarely heard, let alone consumed, outside their cultivation - dried curds (aaruul), yogurt, kefir, a light milk liquor (shimiin arkhi) and milk of fermented mare (kumis). Because the nomads left a little behind and the harsh climate destroyed their pots and garbage dumps, Warinner and his team studied the dental calculus, the plaque buildup on the teeth, of nine skeletons from the period between 1300 and 900 BC. They found milk proteins from sheep, goats, yaks and cows along with DNA evidence that people were lactose intolerant and had little or no evidence that they could have inherited from the Yamnayas, a previous crop whose bodies had developed protection against lactose.

Then, the ancient Mongols developed love for all children of dairy products and developed ways to consume it, ways like cheese that also allowed them to keep it for long periods. How did you solve all this? That is the next question that Warinner will try to answer.
