Juice, the Explorer of the Jupiter Ice Moons, is the next mission of the ESA that will study the most massive planet in the Solar System and its largest moons: Ganymede, Europa and Callisto. After its launch, scheduled for June 2022, it will embark on a seven-year voyage during which it will make several overflights - specifically, on Earth, Venus, Earth, Mars and, again, Earth - before leaving the System Solar interior towards Jupiter.
It is believed that these three moons have oceans of liquid water under their icy crusts and the Radar instrument for the Exploration of the Frozen Moons (RIME) of Juice will be used to study the structure of its subsoil. The radar signals, emitted through a 16 m long antenna, will penetrate the icy surface of the jovial moons to a depth of 9 km.
RIME will be the first instrument of its category capable of carrying out direct underground measurements in the exterior Solar System, and will offer key information on the potential of these bodies to house habitable environments.

Once in space, the performance of the instrument will be affected by several factors, including the radiation pattern of the antenna. To evaluate these effects, a series of tests were carried out in ESA's Hertz chamber in September, using a 1:18 scale model of the RIME antenna, reduced to a length of about 80 cm and mounted on a model simplified and on the scale of the ship.
