Suspect of a shot after a fatal stabbing in Australia: police
A man accused of stabbing three people, one of them fatally, was cataloged in critical condition after police shot him on the scene in Melbourne, Australia.
When the officers "got out of the car, they were confronted by a man who brandished a knife and threatened them," Victoria Police Superintendent David Clayton told reporters at a news conference.
No officer was injured, Clayton added.
The two people who survived the stabbing were taken to the hospital, Clayton said. Details of their conditions have not yet been provided.
The incident seems to have started when the authorities responded to the burning of a vehicle.
"The police are not looking for other criminals at this stage," Clayton said. "The investigation is ongoing, we are open-minded, there is no known link to terrorism at this stage, it is very early in the investigation stages."
