For a few days in the open waters of the Pacific Ocean, NASA tested the recovery procedures for its Orion capsule, which is destined to one day take humans to the moon, and even to Mars. The procedure, called Underway Recovery Test-7 (URT-7), was intended to verify the systems that will help agency personnel take home the capsule and its crew. During the test, NASA worked with the United States Navy and its ship, the USS John P. Murtha, which can be seen to the left in this image taken on November 1, 2018.

The ongoing recovery test-7 (URT-7) was not only designed to test whether the team can recover equipment, of course. The Orion capsule will have astronauts on board and it will be necessary to take them to a safe place.
