A series of strange sightings and encounters between October and December 1968 along a part of Waldo, Maine, which the locals call "The Tote Road", a quiet and peaceful location east of the Passagassawaukeag River (Passy River) still in This days are left without explanation. Many locals would drive to this part of the city. The reception of the radio was generally good. Or you could just sit and look at the stars above. It is an area where many locals, especially young people, visit and relax regularly. And, apparently, it was a place that harbored an extremely strange activity.
A resident of Maine, "Tom" would experience several of these strange sightings. And together with his friend, Steve, he returned repeatedly, each time witnessing bright objects on his head. As they continued to return, they would witness much larger vessels, with at least one sighting that resulted in the testimony of apparent occupants in the interior. However, after a bizarre close encounter, followed by a mysterious return of a lost jacket, Tom finally felt nervous enough to stay away from this mysterious stretch of land. What happened along The Tote Road in the fall of 1968 remains intriguing and unsolved.
The area certainly has a history of Strange creatures and encounters., as well as a long history of strange night lights that come from the forest that interweaves and surrounds many of the smaller cities and communities of Maine. Were the events witnessed by Tom and his friends simply regular events that occur more frequently? Or could they have come across a unique moment in time that allowed these strange anomalies to access our world?
Bright objects on power lines!
It was sometime in mid-October 1968 when Tom first realized. strange occurrences along the handle road. Along with several friends, Tom was sitting in his car when they noticed that a shiny object was moving towards them. He would estimate that it would be about 100 feet above the electric lines that ran overhead. Suddenly, the object stopped, floating in the air at the same altitude and slightly ahead of them. None of the group would remember any sound of the object. However, they could clearly distinguish the strange glow by turning their own axis over them. A glow of red and green lights seemed to come from inside, suggesting the presence of windows.
Then, the group witnessed several smaller and brighter objects falling from the main nave. They would veer slowly down toward the power lines. These objects seemed to disappear as they fell, leaving "a kind of trace or thread illuminated as they descended".
The group would continue to watch for about an hour. Then, the ship suddenly accelerated in the opposite direction to the one that had arrived. The whole group was nervous, but relatively quiet. They would leave the area and head home shortly after. However, several nights later, they would return. In fact, they would return regularly to the same place. And they would not be disappointed. Although some nights will pass without incident, most of the time similar bright objects will appear in the place. Tom would later say that "seeing these things become so routine, we become desensitized."
As the weeks passed, they took other people to the site to witness the usual air shows. All of which was similar to the previous one. Then, a different sighting came.

Several weeks after the group of friends had first witnessed the bright ship over power lines on The Tote Road, another seemingly "standard" sighting became something more unique. As usual, the bright object had appeared and floated above my head. However, shortly after, another huge object emerged from the sky "and dwarfed" the first ship. Again, this much larger ship rotated like the others, only this time it was "so big that it was easy to see portals or windows" inside its exterior.
Also, Tom would remember that it was not the entire object that was spinning, only the section with the windows facing inward. As this section moved, the flashes of red and blue were clearly visible. I would remember how the ship was in the middle of a saucer shape and a cigar shape "like an elongated saucer." Although each of the witnesses on this particular night could clearly see "objects" inside the ship through the windows, they could not see what they were.
Once again, as on the first night that they witnessed these strange crafts, this larger ship "dropped many small objects that descended on trails similar to threads". For the first time since I attended these strange events, the group of friends got a little scared. However, they remained in their car, watching the events unfold. After several moments, both the aircraft and the smaller objects accelerated and disappeared from sight. The group would leave soon after.
However, they would continue to return to the area. Further intrigued with the sightings, especially after this most recent exhibition. Then, on a Saturday night in early December, Tom and his friend Steve brought their dates to The Tote Road.
The December incident
When Tom, Steve and their appointments sat in Tom's Ford watching the dark skies, they were a little surprised that one of the objects appeared so early in the night. And, as several weeks before, this object was another one of mothership size. As before, the object rotated on its own axis, throwing shadows of reds, blues and greens, which seemed to shine behind windows or portals along its edge.
After observing for several minutes, the two couples would decide to get out of their vehicle and walk to this aerial screen and look more closely. They left their beer cans they were drinking in the back seat of the car and covered them with a coat. Then, cautiously, but with an enthusiasm in their footsteps, they headed towards the bright and revolving ship. However, before they could get directly underneath, the two girls pulled Tom and Steve backwards. Each one was enervated and did not want to get closer. Tom would remember "This was, as I later learned, probably good advice."
The four, however, stayed where they were a little behind, watching this fascinating screen from another world. After a few moments, they returned to the car. However, instead of joining them, Tom decided to stay and look a little more. Insisting that he would walk home, he asked Steve to take the two girls home. He would go home himself. Tom, meanwhile, began to walk back towards the suspended object. In doing so, he was able to "make movements inside the ship". Although he could not distinguish any finer details, they were very definite "forms" within the enormous object.
The mysterious "Ripped shelterIncident
Shortly after this, Tom felt a sudden chill run through his body. Suddenly he regretted not having returned with the rest. He turned and ran back to the car that, fortunately for Tom, was still in sight. Steve had made the decision to wait a little for his friend. Tom jumped into the car and, along with the others, watched as the huge ship soared into the sky and fired. Then, Steve put the car in motion, returning each person to their respective homes where they would contemplate the strange events they had witnessed.
The next morning, on waking, Tom was cold instantly. He would go out to the car to retrieve his coat. After not seeing him in the backseat, he checked under the front seats, thinking that maybe he had been kicked accidentally when everyone had rushed into the vehicle. He originally thought that this was the case when his hand wrapped around the arm of the corduroy-sheepskin coat. However, when he pulled it "that's all there was to do". Only the arm. "
I thought Steve must have broken it, even if it was by accident. However, when Tom confronted him with the accusation, he denied it outright, which led the two to argue and fall. After this, Tom would start heading to The Tote Road alone. I would do it for three consecutive nights after the confrontation with Steve. It would go a little earlier than usual, since "it was a good place to think when the objects were not around". On the third afternoon, it began to snow. Without objects that apparently try to pretend, Tom would return home, trying to return the next night.
The unwavering return!
The first thing he noticed when he arrived at the usual place at the top of The Tote Road the next night was how quiet the snow was. The only marks on the otherwise smooth white blanket on the floor were his own tire marks from the night before. However, there was also something more in the tire brands. A dark shape, curled up. He came closer. He looked around to see if any footprints were moving away from this strange pile in front of him. There was none. He arrived at the place of the strange anomaly. When he crouched down, he could now clearly see that it was his coat, minus his arm.
As he lifted it, a wave of frozen fear ran through his body. He jumped back in his car, closed the door and sat there. He was momentarily unable to move, so terror and confusion seized his perspective. Then he went back to his senses, turned on the car engine and drove away as fast as conditions allowed. It would be the last time Tom visited The Tote Road.
However, he would take the coat, as well as his numerous accounts of his time in the place of residence of his grandparents (with whom he lived). His reaction was certainly interesting, to say the least. While her grandfather had generally discarded previous accounts in recent weeks, her grandmother had taken them much more seriously. Perhaps because of his strict religious background, he would warn Tom to stay away from the area. I would even go so far as to say that "the objects had to do with the devil". This was very much what she felt now. His grandfather's actions, however, would lead to an even stranger incident.

Taking his ruined coat from him, Tom's grandfather would proceed down the stairs to the basement. There, Mickey, the family's hunting dog, slept. Tom's grandfather would place the ruined jacket on Mickey's bed, thinking it would serve as an additional "blanket" for him to curl up in the winter. However, Mickey would instantly pull away from his coat, growling anxiously as he did so. This was particularly shocking for the couple since it was not in Mickey's nature to act that way. He was obviously very nervous about the coat. Tom's grandfather would take him away and take him to the garden where he would burn him.
Although Tom would remain in Waldo, where he still lived at the time of presenting his report in January 2011, he would never return to The Tote Road. A UFO investigator would visit himself and Steve in the weeks after the incident in early 1969. However, an explanation was never reached and the couple lost contact with the anonymous investigator soon after.
Steve, on the other hand, would be recruited by the marines of the United States, heading abroad not long after. Although he has spoken with Tom on occasion since then, he rarely returns to Maine. When he did, to visit the family in the early 2000s, he would tell Tom that he did not remember the events on The Tote Road. If that is a genuine claim, or if you simply prefer to forget sightings, you may be open to debate.
Just what sightings occurred in the fall of 1968 in this mysterious area of Maine remains unexplained. And if someone else had equally strange sightings there, for now at least, it also remains unknown.
