Second flight of the Electron Curie rocket
After a first test flight, in January, the company Rocket Lab made the second mission of its Electron Curie rocket on November 11. The vehicle took off at 03:50 UTC from the base of Mahia, in New Zealand, and placed seven satellites in orbit.
The rocket used its first two stages to reach a provisional elliptical low orbit. After costing for a few minutes, he activated the motor of his third stage, which allowed him to turn it into a circle. Then, he freed one by one all his charges, which will evolve in a polar orbit at about 500 km altitude.
The satellites are as follows: The American CICERO-10 weighs 10 kg, is owned by the company GeoOptics and has been built by Tyvak. He will use radio-occult techniques to study the Earth's atmosphere. Also on board were the Lemur-82 and 83 satellites (Zupanski and Chanusiak), of the American company Spire, which with 4 kg of weight will have meteorological functions as well as communications. Next-1 and 2 are also Americans. They are cubesats 3U that will test the technology to shape a global network of connectivity for the internet of things. They belong to the company Fleet Space Technologies. The Irvine-01 is a 1U cubesat from the 1 kg weight Irvine Public School Foundation, which has provided engineering experience to students. Will try different technologies. Finally, the NABEO (Nanosat Bremssegel Enthaltversuch im Orbit), is a German technological demonstrator, which will test techniques for controlled reentries of satellites by means of a sail. This load, of 1.3 kg and property of HPS GmbH, remained attached to the third stage of the rocket.
