Innovative platform for dental patients using wheelchairs
Inclutec is a motorized platform that can transform a wheelchair into a dental chair. It is a Cordovan enterprise, unique in the country, developed with local manufacturing materials and components.
The idea is simple: the patient enters the platform with his own wheelchair and sits against the adjustable backrest. Then, by means of electronic commands, the motors that raise the platform to form a 90º angle with the floor are activated. In this way, the patient is in the optimal and safe position so that the dentist can work properly.
Its design accepts all types and models of wheelchairs, from pediatric to motorized, which are wider and heavier. In addition, the platform is foldable and easy to mobilize, which allows better use of space in the offices. Due to its size, it is also possible to transport it in a utility vehicle and that would allow it to be incorporated into possible sanitary or dental operations.
Inclutec won the first prize as "Innovative Product" at UNC Innova 2017, the exhibition promoted by the Secretariat of Science and Technology of the National University of Córdoba (Argentina), and the second prize in the National Metallurgical Entrepreneurs Competition organized by the Association of Metals Industrialists (ADIMRA).

Its creator is Emiliano Agost, an industrial designer graduated from the UNC. Account that the idea arose from a concrete necessity. The Faculty of Dentistry of the UNC has a free service of attention open to the community. But, due to the risk and commitment involved in transferring the patient to the dental chair, he did not attend to people in wheelchairs.
Some cases were derived to the training course in Attention to Patients with Disabilities dictated by the same academic unit; however, even there, the situation repeated itself. "Moving people from their wheelchair to the dental chair is uncomfortable and cumbersome for patients, it is even a task that involves the risk of being hit or dropped. Neither is it possible that they receive attention in the same chair because the position is not adequate, "says Agost.
To solve this obstacle, the young man developed a platform that uses the wheelchair itself as a dental chair. According to the investigation, there are no platforms of this type in the country. Only a private university in Chile has a similar device, acquired in Europe, where the only company that develops them is at an approximate cost of 25 thousand euros.
Agost not only seeks to respond to a specific need, but also to do it with resources and local work. For this reason, all the components of the platform are of Cordovan production. To finalize his project, the young man counted on the advice of the mechanical engineer Mariano Jacovich and the electronic engineer Marcelo Martinet.
The development of Inclutec had the support of the SME Secretariat of the Ministry of Industry of the Province of Córdoba and the endorsement of the Subsecretariat of Disability and Inclusion of the Ministry of Health of Córdoba.
For the young person, it is not about finding a commercial niche, but about generating inclusion tools. In this line, he says that from the link with the different organizations and spaces that work this problem he discovered that there is much to be done.
"Although the platform arises to facilitate the dental care of patients in wheelchairs, they also suggested that it could be useful in rehabilitation centers or health centers for everything related to facial and torso issues, since it prevents the transfer from patients to a stretcher, "Agost concludes.
