French football opens a case of discrimination against PSG
PARIS (AP) - The French Football Federation says its ethics board will analyze Paris Saint-Germain's recruitment policy after the club's scouts illegally profiled the ethnic origins of potential young recruits.
The federation says the council will have the right to ask the disciplinary commission of the French league to intervene when the investigation ends.
PSG acknowledged that forms with "illegal content between 2013 and 2018" were used. But he declined responsibility for implementing the policy after the Mediapart news website reported on Thursday that PSG explorers who are not in Paris listed the ethnic origins of potential recruits.
Mediapart and the French television program "Envoye Special" said PSG had overlooked a young black player because of its color. After an investigation based on the documents of "Football leaks", Mediapart alleged that 17-year-old midfielder Yann Gboho, who plays for France U-18, was discarded by the PSG when he was 13 years old, and the management of the club decided conceal "those involved in the scandal."
Sports Minister Roxana Maracineanu expressed her "dismay" at the revelations, while Nathalie Boy de la Tour, president of the French soccer league, said that "such practices are unacceptable."
Seven years ago, French football was shaken by Mediapart's revelations that then-national coach Laurent Blanc and others discussed informal quotas that limit the participation of black and Arab players in the national team.
