Bob Menéndez wins the third term of the Senate in New Jersey
Sen. Bob Menendez, a Democrat, is expected to win re-election in New Jersey, defeating Republican businessman Bob Hugin, according to the Fox News Decision Desk.
Although some Republicans saw Menéndez as vulnerable due to a federal corruption trial in 2017, the 12-year Senate veteran never followed Hugin in the pre-election elections.
Menendez rejected his wealthy Republican challenger and a barrage of announcements about his corruption charges to win re-election.
RESULTS OF THE COMPLETE ENVIRONMENT
Menendez, 64, got a third term on Tuesday after a grueling campaign against Republican Bob Hugin.
Polls showed that Hugin, 64, and Menéndez, were much closer than expected in the overwhelmingly Democratic New Jersey.
Hugin tapped into his deep pockets for at least $ 27.5 million and spent on television ads attacking Menendez during the 2017 trial on charges that he helped a friend with Medicare billing in exchange for generous gifts.

The race was particularly significant because Democrats are defending 26 seats, including 10 incumbents running in states that President Donald Trump won in 2016.
Voters in the Garden State established a race in the Senate between the Democratic incumbent and Republican Hugin, who previously served as CEO of drugmaker Celgene.
They also voted for representatives in the dozen races of the New Jersey House.
Menendez got his third term among six other candidates who were also on the ballot.
Voters also contributed a $ 500 million educational bond issue.
President Donald Trump backed Hugin in the blue contest of the New Jersey Senate, which led Menéndez to tweet his gratitude.
The president said on Tuesday that Hugin would be a "great senator."
Hugin has stayed away from Trump, who is unpopular in New Jersey. He even said during the campaign that he is not a "Republican of Trump."
Menendez campaigned in part for Trump's unpopularity and said Hugin would be a "rubber stamp" for the president.
In response to the president's tweet, Menéndez tweeted: "Thank you."
