A study confirms that drinking a single energy drink increases the risk of stroke and heart attack
A recent study revealed that drinking an energy drink can increase your risk of heart Attack and caress in just ninety minutes.
The researchers revealed that energy drinks reduce the blood vessels, which could restrict the flow of blood throughout the body to important organs. Numerous studies in the past have found similar links with regard to energy drinks and coffee. Often, these studies have revealed links to problems of the heart, stomach and nerves.
The researchers examined forty-four students attending the McGovern School of Medicine who were young, in good condition. Health, and classified as non-smokers. The experiment began by testing the function of the endothelium, which is the layer of cells lining the surface of blood vessels, for each student. The students received a great energy drink. In ninety minutes, the internal diameter of the blood vessels in relation to the endothelium decreased by an average of fifty percent.
This study is significant because energy drinks have increased in popularity in recent times. People in the medical field are concerned about its effects and think that it is vital to develop safety recommendations for the consumption of these products.
This study is not the only study with results similar to those mentioned above. A University of Waterloo study in Ontario, Canada revealed that fifty-five percent of individuals aged twelve to twenty-four reported many conditions after the consumption of energy drinks such as chest pains, vomiting and in some cases seizures.
A reasonable assumption of a similar effect can be made with coffee and tea, as they contain caffeine. However, energy drinks contain more questionable chemicals and high amounts of sugar that could also be causing this increased risk of heart attack and stroke. Many medical professionals and researchers believe that sugar could be as guilty as caffeine. In addition, most recognize that energy drinks pose a significantly greater health risk than coffee or tea.
