Early voting in 2018 has significantly exceeded 2014 figures, based on at least one analysis of such data.

The data of the secretaries of state at the national level are compiled by Michael McDonald, associate professor of political science at the University of Florida, widely cited as the leading expert on early voting.

According to McDonald, participation in the 30 largest counties in the state of Texas, where 4,337,435 people have cast their early votes, already exceeded the total votes (anticipated plus Election Day) in 2014. In other words, with three days Until Election Day, more people have already voted in the 30 largest counties in Texas in 2018 than in 2014.

In a state with a contentious career in the Senate with a progressive candidate, Texans may be more motivated to vote, since Democrats expect the Senate to turn blue.

Georgia is following the same trend. 2014 totals throughout the state reached 1,069,912. The state has already seen an increase of 155.4 percent in that number, with 1,662,373 ballots on Wednesday morning, according to the office of the secretary of state.

A close to the governor's career is developing in that state between current Republican Secretary of State Brian Kemp and Democrat Stacey Abrams. If Abrams wins, she would be the first African-American female governor in the nation.

Kemp, which has the backing of President Donald Trump, has advocated for stricter voter identification laws and has received criticism for the more than 53,000 voter applications that were suspended due to restrictive laws of "exact match" of the state, regulations that require voter information. the rolls exactly match your identification issued by the government. A coalition of civil rights groups has demanded by law that, they say, it does not deprive minority voters.

If Abrams hopes to win, she will need those votes.

Early voting is underway in all 34 states That offer the option.

McDonald breaks down the numbers by state, mail and in-person ballots.

In general, early voting numbers are much higher than in 2014:

-Total of ballots issued as of 11/2/18: 30,257,820

-Total votes cast as of 02/11/14: 17,000,000

While these figures represent a large increase in early voting, a strong signal of enthusiasm before Tuesday is also the result of many states expanding early voting opportunities.

As of Friday morning, 27 states plus the District of Columbia have exceeded their 2014 anticipated vote totals, with four days remaining until Election day.

McDonald said on Twitter that he estimates more to join this list.

In the critic battlefield of the state of FloridaDemocrats and Republicans are issuing their first ballots at almost equal rates. Of the 3,001,550 initial votes cast in Florida, 41.5 percent are registered Democrats and 40.1 percent are registered Republicans. In Arizona, the home of one of The most competitive races of this cycle in the United States Senate, Republicans represent 42.3 percent of the first votes cast, while Democrats represent 33.7 percent.

In Georgia, the proportion of young people in the early voting electorate (18-29) has doubled compared to the state's last intermediate election, from 4 percent in 2014 to 9.4 percent in 2018. In total, 1,830,026 of the first votes have been cast in Peach State.
