Why You Should Wait on Doctor Who Season 11
NEW YORK - Jodie Whittaker, the thirteenth doctor, he sat on a panel of Doctor Who during the weekend at New York Comic Con 2018. He eloquently discussed everything from his heroic influences to his hope of inspiring show fans to come together and celebrate the character's 55-year legacy.
That same day, Whittaker's first episode as the new Doctor aired, and the reviews came in a matter of hours. Season 11 currently has an unprecedented 96 percent in Rotten tomatoes.

Whittaker was considered "bright", "charming", "wonderful", "playful", "energetic" and all the other superlatives under the sun. The episode itself, "The woman who fell to Earth", received similar praise. By all accounts, after a few rocky seasons, it seems that Doctor Who is back in a weird way, entertaining fanatics of fantasy science of all ages.
However, that does not necessarily mean you should see it.
Whittaker's performance speaks for itself, and the season seems to have got off to a good start. But lifelong fans should remember that Doctor Who has a history of exhibiting fantastic actors in slam-bang releases, and then fantastically perform only a few episodes later.
There is no doubt that Jodie Whittaker is the right woman for the doctor's job. But the show has disappointed fans so many times before, it may be time to leave the ship before the almost inevitable downward spiral begins.

Misuse of great actors
David Tennant, the tenth doctor, had a series of fairly solid episodes, from his high-energy debut in "The Christmas Invasion" to his heartbreaking departure in "The End of Time." We were able to see the actor's full range in an exciting, inventive story after another, for almost five years.
Things have declined a bit since then.
Matt Smith took over the role after Tennant left. Smith is a hugely talented actor, who uses his ungainly frame to involve physical comedy, and his winning smile for the perfect delivery of quippy phrases.
In his debut episode, "The Eleventh Hour," Smith met the quixotic Amy Pond, discovered his affinity for fish fingers and custard and saved the world from an imminent alien invasion, all while trying to deal with his new attitude and Fashion sense. In other words, the whole adventure was exciting and enchanting, all the while setting an exciting arc throughout the season.
In the last episode of Smith, his uncomfortable romance with his complicated companion Clara took a back seat in a strange and diffuse riff on the Christmas spirit. Some intense and fast-aging make-up concealed the best parts of Smith's performance, which the writers then fitted into the introduction of the 12th Doctor. Throughout three seasons, Smith went from being vivacious and fun to a pack mule for his depressing and melancholy stories, and he showed himself.
In the same way, consider Peter Capaldi, the 12th doctor, and possibly the best comic actor to have played the role so far. In her free release, Capaldi faced a t-rex in Victorian London, turned to some of the fans' favorite support characters, clarified her relationship with Clara and delivered a memorable monologue on her eyebrows. The episode juxtaposed Capaldi's incredible comedic moment against his brusque sincerity, and turned it into one of the Doctor's most endearing incarnations thus far.
By "Twice Upon a Time", the last appearance of Capaldi, things had derailed again. He said goodbye to Clara a season earlier in a really strange change that ended with the partner flying in a space dining room, so he had to conclude his career with the underdeveloped teammates Bill Potts and Nardole. "Twice Upon a Time" was a Christmas special of great continuity where Capaldi could show a bit of his range, but it is difficult to avoid the feeling that he never had the opportunity to make the most of his talents.
Stories that are not worth telling.
Another major problem with Doctor Who in his last seasons is that the stories have been too sentimental and complicated. While Doctor Who generally excels in telling independent adventure stories with the whole family in mind, a good portion of the careers of Smith and Capaldi were simply love letters to their own tangled continuity.
Smith had to deal with an arc of the season that involved a mysterious time traveler, President Richard Nixon, a silent alien invasion of Earth (which was never completely resolved) and the sad departures of dear companions Rory Williams and Amy Pond
Meanwhile, Capaldi had to unravel Clara Oswald's complicated background story, a bewildering saga of undead Cybermen and a downright depressing bow about Maisie Williams as an immortal Viking girl who loses her children, and I can not even remember it, because of its deadly memory capacity. .
At its best, Doctor Who is uplifting and charming; Seeing Smith and Capaldi try to deal with themes that would feel like home in an episode of Black Mirror is not either.
A job for jodie
Of course, there are some reasons to be optimistic about the season number 11 of the program and its number 13 doctor. Whittaker herself has had a good start, of course, but there are also reasons to believe that the story might not be so scattered in this chance.
Chris Chibnall has replaced the controversial Steven Moffat as editor-in-chief of Doctor Who. Previously, he worked on the beloved Broadchurch critique, where Whittaker also starred, casually, and previously has written completely decent Doctor Who episodes, which include "Hungry Earth" and "Dinosaurs in a spaceship".
But a good lead actor and a good lead writer are not compensated for years and years of poorly directed cast members and storylines. If Whittaker can return Doctor Who to the constant quality of the Tennant days, then he will have more power for her. But if you want to wait until the end of the season to see how it goes, instead of betting 45 minutes each week, you'll probably have the story on your side.
