Reliever Arodys Vizcaino escaped his own entanglement in a nervous ninth inning and the Atlanta Braves stopped the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-5 on Sunday night, reducing their deficit in the NL Division Series to 2-1.
Rookie Ronald Acuna Jr. hit a grand slam that helped the Braves build an early 5-0 lead. Atlanta squandered that lead, but Freddie Freeman hit a tiebreaker home run in the sixth.
Then, in the ninth, the Dodgers got runners in first and second without outs. Vizcaino returned from a 3-0 count to hit Max Muncy, then threw Manny Machado in a wild pitch that moved the runners to second and third.
With all the crowd in SunTrust Park standing, singing and cutting, Vizcaino fanned a Brian Dozier who was swinging to finish him off.
The fourth game is Monday afternoon in Atlanta.
Closed in the first two games at Dodger Stadium, National League champion Baby Braves recovered.
"My heart still beats," Freeman said, moments after the last exit. "This is how we have been all year."
"I like our chances, we have a uniform, so we know we have an opportunity," he said.
At age 20, Acuña became the youngest player to hit a postseason Grand Slam: Mickey Mantle was 21 when he did it for the New York Yankees in the 1953 World Series.
Acuna connected in the second, right after Dodgers rookie Walker Buehler joined Braves starter Sean Newcomb in four pitches.
Freeman landed on the first pitch of former teammate Alex Wood to put Atlanta back on top.
Chris Taylor hit a two-run homer and Muncy added a homer tied in the fifth to lead the return to Los Angeles.
Labeled from the start, Buehler regained control when the Dodgers started their rally. Newcomb was retired after walking a couple of walks in the third and Justin Turner hit a single from Kevin Gausman. Taylor also scored when Acuna threw the ball in left field for an error.
Taylor connected Gausman, and Muncy added a Max Fried deadlock in the fifth.
The Dodgers threatened in the sixth. Matt Kemp opened the inning with a double, but with one out he was sent off in the shortstop that Charlie Culberson threw to the plate.
Los Angeles was denied its second straight sweep of NLDS after winning three straight over Arizona in 2017.

The attendance was 42,385, setting a SunTrust Park record in the first playoff game of the second-year stadium.
UNTIL NEXT TIME
The Dodgers could start with LHP Rich Hill (11-5, 3.66) when the series continues on Monday.
The Braves are expected to start with RHP Mike Foltynewicz, who allowed four runs and three hits in two innings in Thursday night's 6-0 loss.
