WASHINGTON, DC - The United States Mint has taken "a small step" toward launching new coins to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first lunar landing with the design revelation For its commemorations of 2019.

The commemorative coin program for the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11 will see Mint issue curved coins in gold, silver and coated metal. Cheryl Chaffee, daughter of the late Roger Chaffee, joined Cunningham on stage for the opening, who with her two Apollo 1 crew died in a fire on the launch pad in 1967.
