Ups! The Canadian discount airline Swoop is forced to delay the US debut
The long-awaited service debut in the United States has become a big "oops" for the low-cost Canadian airline Swoop.
Swoop had planned to start flying to the United States this month, a move that would have made him the first Canadian "ultra low cost carrier" to start flying to destinations here.
But now, at least two dozen of the first flights of Swoop between the EE. UU And Canada has been canceled because regulatory approvals have taken longer than expected.
"We apologize to our travelers affected by the cancellations for the inconvenience and for their disappointment," Swoop spokeswoman Karen McIsaac told Canada. CBC News. "We are focused on doing the right thing and are working directly with affected travelers to provide options that include booking an alternative flight or providing full refunds and compensation."

Swoop flights in the United States were scheduled to begin on October 11, with service between Las Vegas and Edmonton. Six more routes were planned between EE. UU And Canada by the end of October, flights that were going to operate from several Canadian airports to Fort Lauderdale; Orlando; Phoenix / Mesa, Arizona; and Tampa.
It is common practice in the airline industry, even among US airlines, to reveal new international routes for which government approvals must still be secured. However, it is rare that approvals do not arrive in time for scheduled flights. It was not immediately clear what led to the delay in Swoop.
Still, it could have been worse.
Actually, there were 56 Swoop flights affected by the regulatory error, according to TravelPulse Canada. But Swoop was able to transfer passengers from 32 of those flights to aircraft operated by parent company WestJet.
Swoop is a subsidiary of WestJet, a low-cost airline that has grown over the past two decades to become the second largest airline in Canada. Swoop started flying in June 2018, offering service on several national routes in Canada. The flights from the United States that would begin this month would be the first of the unit outside of Canada.
Despite the link, Swoop and WestJet operate as separate independent brands.
For now, all flights operated by Swoop have been postponed until October 27, date that Swoop says will allow him to recover the full schedule.
In insinuating how WestJet was able to intervene on some of the Swoop flights, four of the new Swoop routes were the WestJet routes that were scheduled to be switched to Swoop's basic and simple service.
The routes that change from WestJet to Swoop are Edmonton-Las Vegas; Hamilton, Ontario-Las Vegas; Hamilton-Orlando and Edmonton-Phoenix / Mesa.
The other three routes planned by EE. UU And Swoop's Canada are: Las Vegas-Abbotsford, British Columbia; Fort Lauderdale-Hamilton and Tampa-Hamilton.
