Trump says family separations stop illegal immigration
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - US President Donald Trump said on Saturday that separating migrant families on the border could deter illegal immigration and that he was considering several options to strengthen border security.
In June, Trump abandoned his policy of separating immigrant children from their parents at the US border. UU And Mexico after the images of young people in cages provoked indignation in the country and abroad.
But some Trump administration officials have said that the policy, according to which some 2,600 children were separated from their parents, was necessary to secure the border and deter illegal immigration.
Trump seemed to support that discussion on Saturday.
"If they feel there will be separation, they will not come," he said of the migrants during comments to reporters at the White House.
Trump also stated, without providing evidence, that the immigrants were "grabbing children and using children to come to our country in many cases."

He stopped, however, from committing himself to a new round of family separations.
"We are seeing many different things that have to do with illegal immigration," he said, once again, asking Congress to pass immigration legislation. "We will do everything possible to reduce it."
A new policy could establish that illegal immigration is an important issue in midterm parliamentary elections on November 6, when it is considered that Democrats have a good chance of regaining control of the House of Representatives.
Katie Waldman, spokeswoman for the Department of Homeland Security, said Saturday there was a crisis on the US border. UU And Mexico with the increase in the number of adults who enter the country illegally with children.
"DHS will continue to enforce the law humanely and will continue to examine a range of options to secure our nation's borders," he said.
After reports that Trump could again authorize family separations, Sen. Dianne Feinstein and Rep. Jerrold Nadler on Friday asked the administration to "provide a full report of their previous failed efforts."
A government audit published earlier this month said the Trump administration's repression of "zero tolerance" immigration at the US-Mexico border earlier this year was plagued by lack of preparedness, lack of resources and failures in the communication.

The audit found that hundreds of migrant children were detained for longer than the three-day limit allowed at US Border Patrol facilities. UU., Including one who was detained for 25 days.
