The Bible helps save the life of a British soldier of the First World War, according to his daughter.

The Bible belonged to Private Leslie Friston, a nurse of the Royal Army Medical Corps, Sky News reports. Blinded and suffering respiratory problems after a gas attack in 1917, the 23-year-old soldier was recovering in a makeshift hospital bed when a German plane machine gunned the building. Bullets went through the tin roof of the building and two hit his Bible, which was on Friston's bedside table.
"He said the Bible saved his life, since it was the worst part of the attack," said his daughter, Ena Thompson.

"He had incredible luck and I think he knew it, because he kept the Bible with him for the rest of his life," Thompson added.
