The wife testifies in the trial involving a white owner who allegedly shot a lost black teenager

The wife of a former Detroit firefighter accused of trying to shoot and kill a lost teenager in search of directions broke into tears on Thursday as he recounted the events of that morning in court.

Dana Zeigler was visibly moved at the Oakland County Circuit Court when security footage of the April 12 shooting was filmed for juries. The Detroit News reported.

Her husband, Jeffrey Zeigler, who is white, is accused of assault with the intent to murder and is facing life imprisonment in the attempted murder of Brennan Walker, 14, a black teenager.

Dana Zeigler said she was scared when she saw Walker at his home in Rochester Hills.

"What are you doing on my porch?" she remembered "I saw a black person standing at my door and I yelled at her and asked her what she was doing there".

She said that Walker, wearing a hat and a backpack, answered: "I'm on my way to school" and then tried to open the front door.

Walker told authorities he missed the school bus and was trying to walk to Rochester High School when he crossed a subdivision and got lost.

Zeigler said she screamed for her husband, who was "asleep" because of the medication he took the night before. Zeigler ran down the stairs and, seeing Walker, ran to his office on the first floor and took a 12-gauge Mossberg shotgun.

The security images in the house captured the moment when a shirtless Zeigler ran after the teenager, stopped to aim and fire his gun, authorities said. With security still on, Zeigler released her and fired a round from the ground, the newspaper reported.

Walker was not injured.

Dana Zeigler and the teenager's mother suppressed tears while the security video for the jury was played. Jeffrey Zeigler was also visibly moved by his wife's behavior.

Detective Shawn Pace of the Oakland County Sheriff said he found the video "offensive ... especially in this day and age."

Jeffrey Zeigler stated that the shot was meant to be a warning shot, but his foot slipped on the pavement. FOX 2 Detroit reported.

"I felt extremely sorry and I was surprised," he said, adding that he would have taken Walker to school if he could redo the incident differently.

In an interview with the officers, Zeigler allegedly said he was "tired of being a victim."

The authorities had been in his house in the past for the reported robberies. He also has a conviction for firing a pistol at another motorist during a dispute in 2004.

Zeigler's lawyer, Robert Morad, argued that his client never chased Walker and only fired a shot. He argues that the video shows a branch falling from a nearby tree, which means that the Zeigler fired into the air and not at Walker.

Prosecutor Kelly Collins refuted that "being a bad shooter does not negate intentions."

Morad also requested a null judgment because Pace referred to Walker as a "colored boy" and "colored boy."

However, a transcript of Zeigler's interview with a sheriff's officer seems to contradict the claim. According to the transcript, it was Zeigler who said he grabbed his shotgun after seeing "that colored boy" at the door of his house.

The judge said that she would allow the lawyers to write a statement about the frequency with which the descriptor was made and that she would personally read them to the jury.
