On the afternoon of 1S t In March of 1978, a construction worker, along with his girlfriend, witnessed a strange object descending over the Highland Reservoir in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Little did they know, a director of the Buhl Planetarium, who arrived late to his office, would also witness the event. Furthermore, an appeal for witnesses would result in a large number of calls to a local telephone line configured to handle them especially. Many of them would describe the same object, in the same location and at the same time. Nearly thirty separate sightings would be reported as a result of a serious appeal to the public.

The appeal and subsequent investigation would be carried out by the Pennsylvania UFO Research Center, formerly known as the UFO Study Group of Westmoreland County. Their coordinated and inclusive approach would prove to be extremely successful in highlighting genuine details and not those who wanted to sensationalize what they had read in the newspaper. With this in mind, the group successfully persuaded the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette to hide the details of the sighting until the public was asked to telephone something unusual they might have seen. Although it is a little-known account outside the state of Keystone, at least it is an example of how future UFO events could be coordinated.

"What will we do if it lands?"

Shortly after 10:15 p.m., Glenn Ricci, a 22-year-old construction worker, and his girlfriend, Claire Gallery, were driving in the North Hills area of Pittsburgh. They were near the municipal building of O'Hara Township when a strange object suddenly became visible in the night sky. Ricci would stop the vehicle and the two watched the ship for two or three minutes. The couple would agree that the object was "very bright". Much brighter than a star. "

While they watched in fascination, a second object appeared suddenly. This one, Ricci would describe as "incredibly fast, much faster than an airplane." As the pair followed this second object, it suddenly became extremely abrupt, putting it on a collision course with the first object. They would disappear from sight toward Highland Park. "Ricci immediately put the car in motion and headed toward this strange air anomaly.

After initially losing sight of the oval-shaped ship, it reappeared suddenly. This time, it was at a much higher altitude. However, I was definitely descending, heading towards the Highland Depot. I would rest and perch on the reservoir, with the object dwarfing from above at a distance of about 2,000 feet. In the lower part there were three triangular lights, while at each end there were two red lights.

As for Ricci, Claire asked: "What will we do if it lands?"

"A peculiar thing that I canDo not explain!"

By then, Ricci had stopped the car once more. The couple heard a strange buzzing sound. A sound that Ricci would later describe as "unlike any plane I've heard." While continuing to look up, I would take all the details that the surrounding lights would allow. A particular detail that I did remember was that of the different "panels" on the outside of the object.

After a moment or two, the object began to move away once more. In doing so, he began an ascent on an angled path. I would go back almost exactly in the direction that came.

Little did the couple realize, just a little earlier, shortly after 9 pm, Paul Oles, the program director of Buhl Planetarium would respond when asked if he had witnessed something strange that night that he had actually seen "something peculiar that I can not "explain." He would explain that he witnessed a "bright light in the sky" that he believed was the focus of a helicopter, but he would say that he "seemed to be scanning" the area below.

After the reports that are leaked through the aforementioned group of UFOs from Pennsylvania, they will work with the local press to ask residents to phone their sightings. They did it. And most of them were very similar to each other. The director of the organization, Robert Cowell, would conclude that "something very big, low and bright" was in the skies of Pittsburgh on the night in question.

The closest sighting to the location would come from three women who were in Schenley Park at a golf house. They were insistent that the object simply "could not have been an airplane". They would describe an object of circular shape with "small white lights" on it floating near the ground.

A plethora of Pennsylvania UFO sightings

There was a series of sightings in the following weeks in the state of Pennsylvania. While they are alone, each one seems quite insignificant. However, coupled together, and then linked to the sighting on the Highlands reservoir, perhaps these "isolated" encounters did not help.

For example, in the township of Penn Hills in 1S t March, a report came from a rapidly moving object of an anonymous male witness. On the same night in Etna, several witnesses reported an object with an almost identical description. Shortly after 7 pm on 8th In March in Oil City, three people reported a "floating object" for several moments. By the way, the weather during the incident was particularly cloudy. On consecutive nights on the 30thth and 31S t March in Strinestown and York, respectively, "night lights" were observed by several people.

Also in Strinestown two days later in 2.North Dakota April, a "round object with body lights" would clearly float low in front of a car. The witness would report a "pulsing sound" and perhaps even more alarming, a "beam of light" that shone on the vehicle. On the same night in Strinestown, another witness would report an object that not only had a strange appearance but moved with capabilities that had not been seen before. One more witness, named "Mrs. N. Smith", would describe a round object on the head that made a "pulsing sound".

Another similar object was reported in the city of Red Lion at the beginning of April. It moved in the sky unlike any known plane.

The Morgan Run incident 1977

A little less than a year before, on the afternoon of the 29th.th March 1977, more than one hundred miles east of Steel City. at Morgan Run, a similar sighting had occurred. While sitting in his mobile home, Burton Woods, 45, noticed a strange ship floating in the nearby skies. Woods would immediately take his Kodak Instamatic camera, as well as a pencil and paper.

As he pointed the camera up, taking a picture as best he could under the sudden pressure of the situation, he noticed a soft green glow coming from the bottom of the ship. He quickly took another picture before discarding the camera momentarily, so he could quickly draw the scene before him. He kept moving towards the ship while he was doing it. In total, he would manage to compose three separate sketches.

He also managed to reach the object a few feet before it started to move away, and finally disappeared from sight. He would later describe the ship as being about 200 feet in length. UFO investigators would interview the residents of the city. Several would say they had seen strange lights in the sky on the night in question. Due to the late hour (close to midnight), many residents, however, were already in bed.

Incidentally, Woods will suffer from blurred vision and intense headaches in the months after the incident. This is a similar side effect reported by a considerable number of people involved in such close contact encounters.

Whether there is a connection or not, in October of 2002, another sighting over the skies of Pennsylvania would result in a photograph. And what's more, the details of the sighting would echo some of the late 70's.

UFO meeting on the ice mountain, Tyrone, 2002

After an afternoon hike through the woods on the Ice Mountain near Tyrone, the unidentified witness was walking towards his car when Suddenly I noticed a bright light overhead.. In addition, the bright light moved towards him. At first he believed that light was nothing more than a plane. That was until it stopped and floated in the sky, "pulsing" as it did so. As it became brighter and dimmer, the witness reported that he had seen a "faint haze" of orange-red color around the object.

As the pulse increased, the witness reported that he seemed to "blink" while watching. I would continue to watch until a sudden "very bright blue-white light" emerged from the bottom of the ship. The light would travel directly to the ground below. The witness would emphasize that "this was not a reflector". And besides, it was "a strong and bright beam from top to bottom".

Then, the pulsation ceased, and the ray of light disappeared. The object, however, remained, floating. The witness managed to take two photos of the ship. However, when he went to take a third, "suddenly he shot himself into the air at fantastic speed. And it went out of sight. "

After his disappearance, there was no more sound. And nothing at all, apart from his photographs to suggest that he had even been there. I would affirm that I had never seen anything like this before. The sighting remains unexplained, just one of many in and around the Quaker State.
