A Pentagon spokesperson refused to discuss details about the operations when asked about the report.
"For security reasons, we do not publicly discuss future or ongoing military operations," said Mayor Audricia Harris, a Pentagon spokeswoman. "The department is committed to defending our nation against any threat in any domain, including cyber domain."
Since then, the United States government has focused on preventing a recurrence in mid-year elections this year and beyond.
Last Friday, the Justice Department filed charges against a Russian woman who allegedly carried out an "information war" for the upcoming midterm elections.
According to the charges, Elena Alekseevna Khusyaynova of St. Petersburg, Russia, was the lead accountant of a $ 35 million effort known as the "Lakhta Project" that would carry out an "information war" against the United States and other places using the networks social and other online sites
Prosecutors said Khusyaynova and his alleged conspirators used false online identities that pose as "ordinary American political activists" who support a variety of political views to create political tensions in the United States.
The Lakhta project is supposedly financed by the Russian oligarch Yevgeniy Viktorovich Prigozhin and two companies it controls. Those companies have been accused by special lawyer Robert Mueller for allegedly participating in Russia's massive campaign to interfere in the 2016 presidential election. "Today's indictment of a Russian citizen for trying to sow political and social discord before the mid-term elections of 2018 shows that our elections remain a goal for our adversaries," said Tyler Q.
