Not only Venezuela and Honduras, all of Latin America is experiencing a migratory effervescence that will inevitably reconfigure the societies in America; This situation originates in crisis contexts in each country.

There are cases of populations and countries that were not usually migrants, and are now learning to be migrants; This is the case of Venezuela. Others experience their role as recipients, such as Bolivia, Paraguay and Mexico itself, said academics from 12 countries in the region, which are part of the University Seminar on Studies on Internal Displacement, Migration, Exile and Repatriation (SUDIMER) of the UNAM (Mexico ), and of the Migrāre Thematic Network "Migrations and Mobility".

In the Jorge Carpizo auditorium of the Humanities Coordination of the National University, they presented the results of a study in which, from a comparative perspective of the legal framework of Latin American nations receiving waves of Venezuelan migrants, they analyzed the employment possibilities, residency options legalization, naturalization and access to refugee status.

Luciana Gandini, coordinator of the SUDIMER and member of the Institute of Legal Research (IIJ), commented that the information was obtained and processed from the testimonies of Venezuelans living in 12 nations of the continent (20 testimonies per country): Uruguay, Paraguay, Brazil , Argentina, Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, Dominican Republic, Chile, Bolivia, the United States and Mexico.

Alexandra Castro Franco, from the Externado de Colombia University, indicated that the vulnerability and social integration of migrants are not addressed in Latin American countries.

"We are facing an unprecedented reality, which has been complicated by the regulations; In addition, we will witness a reconfiguration of our societies. In these circumstances, we could take advantage of the employment potential of foreigners, which can be positive for the recipient territories, "he said.

He said that Venezuelans also leave their country on large 30-day walks to other nations such as Brazil.

Venezuela

At the time, Anitza Freitez, director of the Institute of Economic and Social Research of the Andrés Bello Catholic University of Venezuela, indicated that at least 600,000 households in her country have reported the migration of one or more of its members. More than 800 thousand Venezuelans left their territory between 2016 and 2017, and more than 60 percent of families suffer food insecurity. "The migration response is inevitable."

"Although the Venezuelan government considers migration to be a 'media montage', it has implemented the 'Return to the Fatherland' plan, but those who have emigrated are not only afraid to return, they also fear persecution, so they do not It has an official registry of Venezuelans abroad, "he said.

Mexico

Fernando Lozano, an academic at the Regional Center for Multidisciplinary Research (CRIM) of the UNAM in Morelos, mentioned that in 2000, around three thousand Venezuelans lived in Mexico, and by the year 2017, 32,600 were already registered.

"Migrants have a high level of education, which nurtures the social middle classes, and have already entered the labor market in Mexico."

The round table was opened by Alberto Vital, coordinator of Humanities, who highlighted the academic approach of SUDIMER "to a permanent reality in the region." (Source: UNAM / DICYT)
