The Hubble Space Telescope returns to & # 039; normal operations, & # 039; NASA says

The Hubble Space Telescope is once again watching the sky.

The device "returned to normal operations on Friday, October 26 and completed its first scientific observations on Saturday, October 27 at 2:10 AM EDT", NASA revealed in a weekend press release, adding that the telescope observed a galaxy with the catchy name of DSF2237B-1-IR.

Hubble had been experiencing problems with a gyroscope. Such devices are necessary to keep the telescope in the correct direction during observations.

"A gyroscope is a device that measures the speed at which the ship rotates, which is necessary to help Hubble rotate and block new targets," according to the space agency.

NASA shared news of the Hubble problem on October 8.

"In [Oct. 5,] "The Hubble Space Telescope went into safe mode due to a twist of the turn," NASA said at the time.

The space agency said activated a backup gyroscope on October 6, but another problem arose: the device "incorrectly returned the rotation rates that were well above the actual rates".

The launch on Saturday explained that during the previous week, an operations team ordered the telescope to move in different ways "and changed the gyroscope between different operating modes, which successfully eliminated what was believed to be the blockage between the components inside the gyroscope that produced excessive excess rate values ".

They also verified that the device was safe before adding more security measures in case the high rates of rotation happen again, shared NASA.

However, the equipment was not made there.

"On Thursday, the operations team made other maneuvers to collect gyroscope calibration data," NASA said, adding that the telescope "performed activities similar to scientific observations" a day later.

More steps were taken that same day.

"On Friday night, the team began the process to restore the scientific instruments to the standard operating state," the space agency added. "Hubble successfully completed the maneuvers to reach the goal of the first scientific observations, and the telescope collected its first scientific data since October 5."

Three of the Hubble gyroscopes are fully functioning, according to NASA.

THE MYSTERIOUS DARK FORCE OF THE UNIVERSE COULD LEAD TO LIFE

Launched in 1990, Hubble has had problems with its gyroscopes before. Space shuttle astronauts replaced the six in 2009.

The telescope could work with only one or two gyroscopes, although that leaves little space for additional breakdowns.
