The sea of antennae that is currently deployed in the plain of Chajnantor was born with the ambition to revolutionize astronomy from the earth's surface. And being Europe, the moon that has captivated astrobiologists for so long, the protagonist of this story could hardly offer us anything better. SOUL gives us the first global thermal map of the surface of this moon, with a resolution of approximately 200
kilometers, enough to study the correlation between the variations
thermal sensors of the surface and the main known geological accidents. Bearing in mind that one is certain of the existence of an ocean of underground water, it is tempting to look for signs of the heat that keeps it liquid.
To generate the map, the data obtained now was combined with a thermal model based on observations from the
spacecraft Galileo. In that way, they were able to study the changes in
temperature and thus generate the first complete map, which, among other things, reveals a mysterious
cold spot in the northern hemisphere of the star
