Riley's son, Shay, was born four days earlier in a breech position, with the umbilical cord wrapped around his neck.
A couple of new parents in Missouri presented their newborn son to the paramedics who helped him deliver during an unplanned delivery in the home. Jacqueline and Jonathan Riley thanked the paramedics of Fire Station One and American Medical Response on Monday for the safe delivery of their son, Shay, who was breech and had the umbilical cord wrapped around his neck.
"You are all truly heroes and Shay will definitely know this story when she grows up," Jonathan Riley told the group. According to Fox4KC.com.
Jacqueline Riley was scheduled for a birth on September 21 by cesarean section due to Shay's breech position, Fox4KC.com reported.

But the plans went awry when her water broke four days earlier at home, and she quickly realized she would not have time to go to the hospital. Jonathan Riley marked 911 and the paramedics were sent to the couple's house.
"I was not optimistic at all," Jacqueline Riley told the news agency. "I was very scared because I had researched breech babies and I knew there was a reason why hospitals do not deliver breech babies."
On Monday, Rileys introduced baby Shay to the paramedics who delivered him.
(Fox4KC)Doctors soon realized that the umbilical cord had wrapped around Shay's neck, and her head was trapped in the birth canal.
"We thought it was going to be one of those routine calls in which we introduce ourselves, get vital signs and help pack the mother to take her to the hospital," Cole Sammons, a firefighter who responded, told Fox4KC.com. "But once we got to the scene, it was very obvious that we were going to deliver right on the scene."

They worked for 15 minutes to free Shay, who weighed 8 pounds and 1 ounce, and then transported him to a nearby hospital, where he recovered completely.
"The fact that they were able to get him out and he survived and that's fine, and they did everything for me too, I can not express how grateful we are," Jacqueline Riley told the news agency.
