Floyd Edwards died after suffering a severe allergic reaction from a fire ant bite, his family said.
(iStock)A North Carolina man died after being bitten by a fire ant that triggered an allergic reaction, his family revealed in an effort to warn others about the insect.
Floyd Edwards died on September 28 after suffering an anaphylactic shock that was triggered by a fire ant bite, his family told WTVD. Edwards was in a trailer on his Franklinton property with his children when he started experiencing some symptoms.
"It is not known how many times it was stung by fire ants," said Edwards' son, Carlton Curtis. WTVD. "Suddenly he says: 'Carlton, something is in my throat'".
Curtis remembered that his father came into the house to drink some water. He went out to do a little more work, but the symptoms got worse.
"I sat him in the recliner right here, and I said, 'Floyd, do not try to talk, just try to breathe in. That's all you need to worry about right now,' and you can say he was really fidgety," I can not breathe, "he said. Curtis to the news station.
"I mean, literally, you feel helpless." As if sitting with him with the ambulance, I thought, "You all need to save him." But I guess it was too far away, "he added.
The paramedics arrived at his house and administered two injections with an EpiPen and Benadryl. Later he died after suffering a severe allergic reaction.
