In his home state of Arizona, the Republicans who would make up his base of supporters do not seem very upset about his role in the weeklong delay, but more disappointed with him in general.

Adrenne Kelley, a 37-year-old Republican in Phoenix, said she had voted for him in the past and was "somewhat surprised" by his effort to slow down the process, but ultimately thought it was a good move.

"I strongly supported his decision to stop things," he said.

Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh testifies before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Capitol Hill in Washington on September 5, 2018.

Flake's most enthusiastic critics seem to disagree with his role in Kavanaugh's confirmation hearings, especially since Flake ultimately voted for Kavanaugh both in the Senate Judiciary Committee and in the Senate's full vote, but more so with his breakup of the Senate. President Donald Trump and what they see as the republican agenda in general.

That's the case of Vera Davis, a 68-year-old girl from Greater Phoenix, who said her problems with Flake stem from her votes and opposition to Trump before Kavanaugh, and her role in Kavanaugh's confirmation did not particularly concern her.

"I'm angry because he told me in a meeting that he would not become a RINO [Republican In Name Only]"Davis said.

Sherry Fritz, who attended a Republican party before anyone knocked on the door this morning, said she believes it's better for Flake not to run for re-election.

"It's good that he resigns because he's not going to win, he's fine," said Fritz.

"How dare any of these Republican leaders in the Senate or Congress not support the president?" He said. "Are you kidding?"
