Suspect of shooting 7 South Carolina officers accused of murder.
The man suspected of firing seven South Carolina police officers was charged with murder, officials said Friday.
Fred Hopkins, 74, allegedly ambushed officers who were serving a search warrant in a house in Florence, Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott told a news conference.
"As soon as they got there, the ambush was in place," said Lott.

The blood-soaked tests are located on Saxon Drive in the Vintage Place neighborhood, where several members of the police were shot, one fatally, on October 3, 2018, in Florence, S.C.
Fred Hopkins was charged with the murder of 52-year-old Florence Police Department veteran Terrence Carraway, who was pronounced dead at the hospital on Wednesday. He was also charged with six counts of attempted murder, one for each of the officers who were shot.
Police officers responded to Florence's house to execute a search warrant for Seth Hopkins, 27, who was charged with sexual assault. Seth Hopkins lives in Florence's house, although it was not immediately clear if he was related to Fred Hopkins.
The accusations against Seth Hopkins involved a minor in the house, and the Florence County Sheriff's Office had been called to the house several times before, a source in the Florence County Sheriff's Office told ABC News. There were four foster children inside the house at the time of the incident, the source said.
Seth Hopkins has been accused of second-degree sexual misconduct, Lott said.
On the day of the shooting, Fred Hopkins allegedly used a high-powered rifle from the second floor of the house when officers approached, the source said.
Three officers from the Florence County Sheriff's Office and four officers from the Florence Police Department were injured, authorities said. Officers from the Florence Police Department responded to the scene to help the sheriff's office as the situation worsened.
Lott emphasized that the officers followed the procedures to respond to the scene.
"These officers did absolutely nothing wrong," he said. "I do not want anyone to think that their procedures were wrong."

A member of the sheriff's department leaves the scene of the crime in Ashton Drive, in the neighborhood of Vintage Place, where several members of the police were assassinated, one of them fatally, the 3 of October of 2018, in Florence, S.C.
According to the source, Fred Hopkins finally gave up and left the house with his hands up.
The FBI is helping with the investigation, Lott said. He described the case as a "very large and complex puzzle" that researchers are completing "piece by piece".
It will take seven to ten days to process the crime scene, Lott said.
