A shortage of acorn may be to blame for an increase in sightings of black bears in Virginia.

The shortage has forced the local bear population into more populated areas as they search for different types of food, Sabrina Garvin, executive director of the Southwest Virginia Wildlife Center in Roanoke, told Fox News on Tuesday.

Jaime Sajecki, the black bear project leader in the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, echoed Garvin's comments.
