Sylvester Zottola, 71, a family member of Bonanno, was shot in the head, chest and shoulder while sitting in his car in front of the fast food restaurant on Webster Avenue and Belmont Street around 4:45 p.m. , according to police sources.
Zottola had ordered a medium-sized coffee at the drive-thru and his car was locked when the gunman opened fire, the sources said.
Sylvester had been mistreated three times in the last year. His son, Salvatore Zottola, 41, was injured when an armed man opened fire on him in front of his home in the Bronx on July 11.
The July shooting was captured in surveillance videoBut the young Zottola did not cooperate with the authorities and no arrests were made, the sources said.
Investigators believe that the attack on Salvatore was meant to be a message to his father, who received his own share of attempted assault.
Thursday night no arrests were made for the murder of Zottola.
