Preview of the season of Uni Watch NBA.
Preview of the season of Uni Watch NBA.
In baseball, the starting pitcher often chooses which uniform his team will use for each game. In the NFL, the game-by-game t-shirt calendar for the entire season is usually set at the end of July, but only a handful of teams bother to share that information.
And then there's the NBA, where we've now entered the era of LockerVision.
LockerVision is a publicly available NBA web interface that shows the uniforms that teams will wear in each game of the season. The site was created last season, although its existence was not announced until March, at which time many fans, including its friendly uniform columnist, were surprised to learn that all the league matches game by game had been scheduled. move along.
With the 2018-19 season scheduled to begin on Tuesday, all uni clashes have already been loaded into LockerVision. The interface can be filtered by team, by date and by game location. Do you want to know, for example, what the Wizards will bring home in November? LockerVision has it covered. Do you want to see what the Lakers will wear for road games on Tuesdays? LockerVision can tell you that too. Do you want to know if the Bulls will continue to wear red at home this season, as they did last season? LockerVision has the answer. (Spoiler alert: Yes, the Bulls are still wearing red at home).
If you want to know what shirt to take out of the closet on a given night so you can match that worn by your favorite team, or if you're just a single-minded fan who talks about this kind of thing, LockerVision is a blessing. And now that the league has released this information that was once classified, individual teams are adopting a similar approach to fans. The Jazz, for example, have taken the unprecedented step of sharing Your uni schedule for the entire season.. You can also look for that in LockerVision, but it's good that the team put it there.
But LockerVision not only gives us the calendar of uniforms that we already know, but, until a few days ago, it also provided clues about uniforms that we have not yet seen. For example, last season the "Edition of the city" of the Cavaliers alternate uniforms they were silver gray, but LockerVision was indicating that his City uniform for this season it will be blue. Similar color indicators were shown for many other unpublished designs of the city, but the league apparently got up and now shows all the unpublished designs in white.
And there is more. If you set up the LockerVision filters to see which uniforms will be used on Christmas Day, you will see that the uniforms of several teams appear as "Coming Soon". But for a while, the December 25 lists showed that Nike's names for the different league uniform categories (Association Edition, Account Statement Editing, Icon Editing, etc.) had come together with a new finished: the "Edition won". This confirms previous reports that the 16 teams that qualified for the playoffs last season would "win" a new uniform design in 2018-19, the first of which would debut on Christmas Day. (Of course, "winning" something when you reach the NBA postseason is a fairly low level, since more than half of the league qualifies, but that's another problem). We still do not know what these "Won" designs will look like. I like it but, again, LockerVision showed what the colors would be: green for the Celtics, gray for the Bucks (ugh) and so on. And although the league has now returned to mark that information of LockerVision, the genius is already out of the bottle.
All of which is a prolonged way of saying that LockerVision should be a very different type of NBA season, at least from a uniform perspective. Meanwhile, we also have the usual list of new uniforms, new patches and new courtesy designs to tell you. Before getting to that, here are some things to keep in mind:
• Remember, there are no more house or highway uniforms. Local teams can use any uniform they choose, and the road crews must use some contrast. This means that there are many more games of color against color, without any of the teams wearing white.
• Last season, the league began allowing teams to sell space on their shirts to corporate advertisers. At the start of the 2017-18 season, 17 teams had done so. Four more teams began using advertising patches during the season, and four more, the Grizzlies, Spurs, Suns and Trail Blazers, have announced new advertising patches for 2018-19. That gives us a total of 25 teams without ads, with only five ad-free teams, at least for the time being: Bulls, Pacers, Rockets, Thunder and Wizards.
The fact that 25 of the 30 teams in the league are tested for publicity makes the advertising patch program seem a great success, until you remember that most observers assumed that each The NBA team would join the program from the beginning. Instead, here we are at the beginning of the second season of the program and there are still some holdouts. Interesting.
• The NBA has he loosened his rules As for sneaker colors. Instead of being limited to white, black or team colors, players can now wear whatever color of footwear they choose. It is not surprising, they approve.
• A lot of uniforms, including city designs this season and those 16 new designs won, are still in process. Hope to see you soon, probably in November.
OK, enough preliminaries. This is our annual summary of what you can expect to see on the court this season:
Atlantic Division
• There are no changes in the whole team so far for the Celts, but it's worth pointing out that Marcus Morris, who recently became a father for the first time, added "Mr." to the name on the back of your shirt (additional information here):
• Knicks: There are no reported changes or news.
• Networks: There are no reported changes or news.
• Although the Raptors they have not yet made an official announcement, several leaks, screenshots of video games and reports indicate that they will add a new alternative white design to their uni rotation:
• 76ers: There are no reported changes or news.
Central Division
• No design changes reported for the Bulls, but here's something interesting: last season they wore their red uniforms as their main aspect in the home. During the preseason they played with attrition. white at home, but a quick review of LockerVision indicates that they will be dressed in red again for most home games when the regular season starts.
• The Bucks The expected new arena is ready for action this season, and comes with a new court design (additional information here Y here):
With an elegant design, the fire hydrants around the arena have a Bucks themed look:
In addition, the Bucks dancers will wear less revealing uniforms this season (additional information here):
• Interesting movement by the Gentlemen, who have thickened gold by delineating in their uniform numbers:
Also: Guard of the Cavs. JR Smith he got a new Supreme tattoo on his right calf during the offseason, and the league is threatening to fine him If it shows during a game.
• If you count compression stockings and sleeves as part of the uniform, it is worth noting that the Pacers They have changed their accessories from blue to yellow during the preseason:
In addition, according to reports, the Pacers have a setback in the works. Stay tuned.
• Pistons There are no reported changes or news.
Southeast Division
• The Hawks they are celebrating their 50th anniversary in a light blue uniform, along with an alternative black-themed design that will be combined with an alternative uniform that has not yet been revealed (additional information and photos) here):

• Kings There are no reported changes or news.
• The Lakers They have updated their uniforms with several design details that evoke, but do not match, with the classic "Showtime" team (set of information). here, and there is an analysis of Uni Watch here):
Perhaps the biggest problem, however, is the shadow of gold that the team is using. Many fans felt that last season's uniforms were too light, more yellow than real Lakers gold, and even team management recognized the problem at one point, but the new set seems to be the same color as last season, which has led to greater dismay of the fans and has even inspired a online petition.
Also: As you remember, the Lakers used the alternate uniform from last season in City to present their own uni signature, called the lore series, with a different legend of the Lakers being honored every season. The last season of Lore Uni went to Kobe Bryant. And based on the commercial leaks that have been circulating, this season will be for Magic Johnson. So far, we've only taken a look at the shorts, not the shirt:
Oh, by the way, in case you have not heard: a guy named LeBron plays for the Lakers now. According to his long-standing habit, he has the number 23 in the games, but the number 6 (his number when he was with the Miami Heat) during the practice sessions. This can be a bit confusing, because later Lance Stephenson Normally he uses No. 6 for the Lakers, which means there are two 6s - boxcars! - During the practices of the Lakers:
Speaking of LeBron, the color scheme for the sneakers he plans to use for the season opener against the Trail Blazers on October 18 seems very reminiscent of a certain team in Cleveland he used to play in, and some fans of L.A. they are not happy with that.
• The Suns He left without an advertising patch last season, but added one for 2018-19 (additional information here):
• Last season the Warriors I used a Rakuten banner patch with the red "R" logo and the name of the company. This season, the patch has been simplified to show the company's brand:
In addition, the Warriors have added an attractive look from the 70s to their costumes:
Southwest Division
• The Grizzlies They have undergone a complete redesign, although it is more an evolution than a revolution. Unfortunately, it also includes the addition of an advertising patch (there are many additional photos and information available) in this excellent interactive page):
• Mavericks: There are no reported changes or news.
• The Pelicans The owner's commemorative band Tom Benson, which was added to the team's jerseys after his death last spring, will be retained for 2018-19:
• Rocket There are no reported changes or news.
• The Spurs have given and added an advertising patch to their uniforms this season (additional photos here):
Northwest Division
• The Jazz They are celebrating their 40th anniversary in Utah by adding a purple souvenir to their costumes (additional information here):
In addition, the Jazz have a new cutting design this season:
• One year after updating your uniforms, the Nuggets I've done it again. Here are the main designs in white and blue:
Unfortunately, the new set has resulted in the team's alternative equipment being reduced. Worse still, it has been replaced by a completely forgettable design:
In addition, the Nuggets have a new color combination for their main logo:
• The Thunder They have added an alternative uniform of Native American theme. The turquoise color is in keeping with Nike N7 uniforms for college teams, which encourage Native American participation in sports while celebrating the native culture (additional information here).
• The Timberwolves We are commemorating its 30th season with black uni that revives several of the team's ancient design elements, including illegible typography, ugh (additional information here):
There is also a new logo for season 30, although it will not be used in uniforms:
• The Trail Blazers is another previously ad-free team that has added an ad patch for this season (additional information here):
In addition, last season "Rip City" alternates, which had a subtle checkered pattern As a nod to former coach Jack Ramsay, according to reports be updated. Stay tuned.
And there you have it. Did we miss something? If so, You know what to do.
