Although lightning is the most typical electrical manifestation of storms, there are some other types of electrical discharges, similar in many respects to lightning, but which operate far above them and are more difficult to see. Due to its elusive character, phenomena of this type were taken for a long time as mere supernatural legends, since sightings were scarce and without scientific validation. They began to study them scientifically as a result of the first photo, taken in 1989, which was able to demonstrate its real existence. Among these phenomena, the most famous is usually called "duende".
Scientists from the Institute of Atmospheric Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences have completed a detailed study on a storm (more specifically a convective mesoscale system), which on July 30, 2015, in the Chinese province of Shandong, generated more than 30 goblins, with a reddish hue.
"This is probably the most productive storm in elf generation detected to date in China," says Gaopeng Lu of the research team.

For the observations of the storm a special network of magnetic field sensors was also used.
The captured details of this storm are quite consistent with those found in analyzes of typical convex systems of mesoscale producers of goblins in North America and Europe.
