Olivia Colman adds a real touch with & # 039; The Favorite & # 039; at the london film festival

LONDON (Reuters) - The London Film Festival garnered one of its most prominent red carpets on Thursday, when actresses Emma Stone, Rachel Weisz and Olivia Colman premiered "The Favorite," a costume piece with a difference that is considered a Oscar candidate.

With a great deal of laughter, the film sees Colman portraying Queen Anne, of the eighteenth century, as a real insecure, fragile, stormy and childish, whom her friend and confidant Sarah, Duchess of Marlborough, can easily influence.

However, Sarah, played by Weisz, soon finds herself competing for the queen's attention and affection when the maid Abigail arrives, played by Stone.

"The three of us ... we played parts that were dirty, sexy, emotional and sad ... which is normal, not just an attempt to be beautiful all the time and a little bit with some pretty flaws," Colman said at the BFI London Film Festival.

The actresses, who have praised the critics, share the attention as three central characters, which Weisz described as "very textured, layered and complicated."

"I guess I think it's sad that we have to talk about that, but I guess so, it's still a bit unusual, although I do not think ... it's back to the golden age of Hollywood," he said.

"There was Katharine Hepburn, Bette Davis, Barbara Stanwyck, and the list goes on ... it was women who assumed the lead roles."

Although set in the eighteenth century, the film directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, known as "La locust" and "The murder of a sacred deer", has contemporary touches, as in the language used.

"This was a specific kind of story," Stone said when asked if he would make more costumes.

"It was dirty, funny and ridiculous, and all that. So (yes) there is more like this than sure, of course. "

"The Favorite" premiered for the first time at the Venice Film Festival, where it won the Grand Jury Prize, and Colman, who will soon be played in the role of British Queen Elizabeth in the Netflix series "The Crown", She was named the best actress and received the Oscar Oscar.

Asked about the speculation of the Oscar, Lanthimos said: "It matters if you get it."

"But I think it's better not to think too much and do the work, do the best you can and then, if people appreciate the movie, it's great."
