NEW YORK - When it comes to colonizing Mars, transporting astronauts and keeping them alive may seem the biggest obstacle today. But that is only the beginning: as the population of Mars continues to grow, so will the scope of the settlers' problems.
You can discover what life will be like in a Mars colony in a new season of the "Mars" docudrama series, which premieres on November 12 on the National Geographic Channel. Through the combination of scripted drama sequences and documentary style interviews with "great thinkers" experts, the series paints an image of life on Mars while explaining the true science behind fiction.

If civilizations have not yet discovered how to coexist peacefully on Earth, we probably are not better off taking them to another planet, the program suggests. From struggles for power to disputes over natural resources, settlers on "Mars" seem doomed to repeat the same mistakes that humanity has made on Earth.

"We're not learning from our mistakes," Jeff Hephner, who plays the commander of a private mining company on Mars, told reporters. New York Comic-Con on Thursday, October 4. In the series, his mining company fights with scientists at the Olympus Town settlement of the International Mars Science Foundation (IMSF) after the miners find liquid water on mars. While the IMSF wants to preserve the site to look for evidence of microbial life, the miners seem interested only in extracting resources.
Season 2 of "Mars" shows real images of conflicts that occur on Earth to establish parallels with what might happen to civilizations on Mars. For example, the industrialization of the Earth contributed to climate change. However, it also allowed humans to achieve things that we could not have done in the pre-industrial era. Justin Wilkes, the program's executive producer, told reporters at New York Comic-Con that the program does not intend to send a message. Rather, the program uses Earth as an example of what can happen when humans begin to populate a planet.
