New Book Showcases the Incredible Women of 'Star Wars'







		NEW YORK - The new book "Star Wars: Women of the Galaxy" (Chronicle Books, 2018) presents 75 incredible characters from around the world. The universe of "Star Wars".

		In New York Comic On October 4, author Amy Ratcliffe spoke about the new book in a panel moderated by Ashley Eckstein, a voice actor in several animated series of "Star Wars", an entrepreneur and creator of "Her Universe", Fashion and lifestyle. Company made for women who are fans of everything from "Star Wars" to "Doctor Who". The panel also included illustrators who helped bring the incredible characters of a galaxy to life far, far away. 

		"Star Wars: Women of the Galaxy", which will be released on October 30, has beloved characters such as Leia Organa, Rey, Ahsoka Tano, Iden Versio, Jyn Erso, Rose Tico, Maz Kanata and many more. 

		Along with the words of Ratcliffe that convey the story and the unique qualities of the characters, there are 100 new and striking illustrations of the characters in various styles of 18 award-winning female and non-binary artists.

		During the panel, Ratcliffe and the artists discussed their inspirations and worked with the book. Ratcliffe, Eckstein and several of the artists on the panel noted how the character Ahsoka Tano inspired them: "She saves everyone with grace and delicacy," said illustrator Sarah Wilkinson. 

		All panel illustrators agreed that, by working on the book, they learned about female "Star Wars" characters who did not know they existed. They also discussed how, while there is now an incredible diversity among the female characters of "Star Wars," "back then," Karen Hallion said of the early days of "Star Wars," "there was only Princess Leia." 

		"I think she is the original princess who rescues herself," Eckstein added about Leia. "She's the character that started everything ... she broke the mold." 

		The panelists emphasized how incredible the women of "Star Wars" are, citing the exceptional and inspiring qualities of these characters, such as the leadership of Princess Leia and the unrepentant power of Ahsoka Tano. The illustrators even shared some of their favorite quotes from characters that highlight these qualities, such as Ahsoka Tano's line: "Be careful not to drown yourself with your own stupidity," noted illustrator Annie Stoll. 

		"Star Wars" is much more than Luke Skywalker and Kylo Ren: there are dozens of women in the Star Wars universe, in movies, comics, animated series and games that lead, fight and inspire. And "Star Wars: Women of the Galaxy" features 75 of these incredible women with a captivating background story and amazing illustrations. The team that has created the book, from Ratcliffe to the presenter of non-binary illustrators, are passionate fans of "Star Wars" and their dedication to these characters is more than evident in "Star Wars: Women of the Galaxy".
