Murdered journalist will be recognized for his work in the artistic community.
One of the five employees of a Maryland newspaper killed during a mass shooting will be honored for his contributions to the local arts community.
The Capital Gazette reports that its former employee Wendi Winters will be among five others who will receive an Annie Award this week from the Anne Arundel County Arts Council.
Winters is being posthumously recognized for his work in the newspaper. She was an independent writer and article editor, presenting profiles of local artists and featured artistic events.
Winters and four others were fatally shot in the Annapolis newsroom on June 28. The man accused in the shooting had a history of harassment of newspaper journalists.
