Matthew McConaughey surprises the rescuers of Hurricane Harvey in Houston
Matthew McConaughey visited Houston rescuers over the weekend to praise his efforts during Hurricane Harvey.
(Houston Fire Department)Matthew McConaughey visited Houston, Texas, on Sunday to honor those who risked their lives during Hurricane Harvey.
The 48-year-old actor visited a handful of officials in National Day of First Response to participate in the "Wild Turkey Gives Back" campaign.
McConaughey, who is the creative director of Wild Turkey, explained in a Facebook video that he and the bourbon brand were traveling to meet different lifeguards, more than a year after Harvey wreaked havoc in Houston in August 2017.
"Basically, today it's about giving thanks to these people who were in the front line and came out to rescue the people first," said the Texas native.
Turkey surprised the first responders and gave them "delicious turkey parties" as a way to show appreciation in a press release. The bourbon brand said McConaughey and Master Distiller Eddie Russell made several stops in the city.
"Matthew and Eddie started the day at the Houston Fire Station 26, followed by City Hall visits to meet with Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner, the Police Department, the 911 Houston Call Center and the Houston Emergency Center. Ben Taub Hospital, "announced Wild Turkey.
Wild Turkey said it also gave $ 10,000 to the non-profit organization Team Rubicon, a group that trains veterans and lifeguards and sends them to places affected by natural disasters.
