Launched the Kosmos-2528 satellite





A version of the Soyuz rocket family, specifically the Soyuz-2-1B, took off at 00:15 UTC on October 25 with a military satellite on board from Plesetsk. This is the first mission with a Soyuz since the launch accident of the Soyuz MS-10 manned flight.



The vector successfully placed in orbit a satellite dedicated to signal intelligence, specifically the third Lotus-S, which was called Kosmos-2528 once in space. Built by the companies TsSKB-Progress and KB Arsenal, this type of devices detect radio signals, which allows electronic monitoring by third parties. The satellite will operate from an inclined orbit of about 900 km.



Russia has committed to launch several Soyuz rockets before re-boarding astronauts in one of them. While the investigations continue, which seem to confirm that the problem occurred during the separation of one of the lateral accelerators, the success of this military mission brings the moment to reuse this venerable family of launchers in manned missions a little closer.
